35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

  • Date: 07/26/2025  (all day)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a landmark in civil rights—a bold declaration that disability is not a limitation on opportunity. Signed into law on July 26,1990, the ADA opened doors for numerous Americans and Kansans by guaranteeing equal access to jobs, schools, transportation, and public spaces, and prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. At the core of the ADA is a powerful promise: that every American deserves equality, dignity, independence, and inclusion in their communities.

The Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns is eager to commemorate this momentous occasion at ceremony in the Kansas Statehouse on July 25, where Governor Laura Kelly will honor and celebrate the 35th anniversary of the ADA's passage.
